For decades the revelatory gifts of the Holy Spirit have often been treated with great fear and great abuse in the local church. Some abuse these gifts, using them as a means to meet their own desires for power, status, and authority. Others have witnessed the abuse and have shut these gifts out of their lives and churches completely out of fear.
